"leaving the shallows" available on amazon kindle

As some of you know, I am in the process of publishing my first book. While I am working on a novel, this first book is a collection of articles I previously published on my skirt! national blog.

Now that that forum is closed (as of November 2013 - why anyone would give up millions of hits on free content I'll never know!), I have been encouraged by several people to publish a collection of my writings.

I was further spurred on during a writer's teleconference where the leader inspired us - in the words of Nike - to just do it.

Basically she told us, "The FIRST book doesn't have to be THE book - it just has to be A book! You don't have to publish War and Peace. Take what you have, what you know and do it. Make it an inch wide and a mile deep...but just get it out there. Once you get the first one under your belt, you're on your way!"

I received the first printed proof back in January. I was proud of it. For about three days. Then I knew it needed a lot of work. I have proofed it, edited it, reorganized it. I have pulled some of the stories I used out, and inserted some that were better.

The printed version is still awaiting approval. But in the meantime - tada! - I have managed to have it published on Amazon for the Kindle!

The printed version will be available soon, hopefully by the end of March. After my exclusive 90-day commitment to Amazon is done, it will also be available for Nook and for Apple products.

Until then, if you have a Kindle, I hope you will check it out. If you have a Prime membership, you can borrow it for free! If not, I will be running a promotion at the beginning of March for $1.99. (I would run it immediately, but Amazon makes you wait 30 days after initial publication.)

I have learned so much about the self-publishing world. I have also learned that I need an agent. If for no other reason than I am horrible at self-promotion!

If you read it, let me know what you think. But please, be gentle with me :)
